tooth extraction

What to do after a tooth extraction

  • No rinsing today
  • From tomorrow morning - for up to one week - rinse your mouth gently, at least four times a day, with warm salty water. The best times would be after meals and before bed. Half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water is sufficient
  • If you experience any bleeding use a bite pack – you will have been given a pack. Bite hard on it for twenty minutes. You may need to use more than one at a time
  • You may eat and drink normally after 3 hours but take care not to disturb the clot, which will have formed in the tooth socket
  • Take care not to drink hot fluids or bite your lip/tongue while numb
  • Take it easy for the remainder of the day. Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Brush your teeth normally but take extra care in the area where your tooth was extracted
  • Take painkillers if you need them. Some swelling or discomfort is entirely normal for two to three days
  • If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to call us.
